“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Do you have trouble obeying God when you hear Him speaking to you? Many acts of disobedience are directly laid out in the Bible, but those truths that God has for you are sometimes harder to discern.
Since the birth of my second child, I thought I could continue to conquer the world (ok—my daily tasks) just like before—but I was quickly proven wrong. He was a difficult baby that didn’t like to sleep, be put down, or go to anyone besides his mama. It took me 9 months to listen to the Lord speaking in my life. I heard Him and knew what he was asking several months before I finally listened and obeyed.
Priorities.
God was asking me to look at my priorities.
I thought I was seeking God’s kingdom when I was really looking to serve my own. How frequently do we get wrapped up in the “doing things for the kingdom” that we are really doing things to serve ourselves? Jesus calls us to lay down our lives that we might find life in Him, and oh the life we find in Him! The freedom, peace, and joy I have found in the past few days is more than I have had in several months. I was not serving my family for the Lord the way I should have been. I was not serving in the ministry the way I should have been. I am now seeking God’s kingdom in my daily activities and have given up some distractors. I had to learn that saying “no” to things of this world is saying “yes” to the things of God.
I urge you to listen to what God is asking you to do to be in better union with Him. Is there anything you need less of? More of? Remember what Jesus said “all of these will be added to you.”
